About The Artwork
Abstract painting in red acrylic, color wash with orange highlights. Needing to heal from some ongoing pain, I painted this piece as an homage to my feminine parts. As I painted it, I imagined my healing insides. Shortly after painting this piece, I recovered from the pain. Perhaps it was the catharsis of art, making the invisible pain visible that helped. Who knows. I do know that art has helped me to feel better other times. Because of this, I will continue to paint for healing, as much as for celebrating life. Art is the best way I know to make something that often seems inexpressible or invisible become three dimensional.

Born in Mexico City and raised in Southern California, Jennifer Lynne Gildred grew up to have a deep appreciation for the ocean, making art, and spending as much time in the natural world as she could. In 1986, she attended The SCAD Arts program in France, then under the Cleveland Institute of Art. She then went on to receive her Bachelor of Art in Fine Art from The University of Southern California, Los Angeles, and a Master of Art in Psychology/Art Therapy from Sonoma State University. Gildred has traveled around the world and has gained a broad perspective of the human palette. She has shown her work in various locations globally, but primarily in California. A retired art therapist, she can be found painting in her home art studio in Sonoma County, CA.
