About The Artwork

The painting was made the 6th August 2010. On the day 65 years after the atomic bomb flattened Hiroshima and ended the lives of some 90 000 people. How to commemorate a thing like that in a painting? I didn't know, just started to pour my energy out on the surface. When the painting was done I thought the colours should tell what the world had missed og joy and creativity that day. It is not so much a political as a human expression I think. Acrylic on linen. Unframed. Will be shipped ready to hang.

Kjell Folkvord is painting in the abstract style, but the founding idea of his works are usually quite concrete. But as he say, it is not important to know the artists motivation. The important thing is that the artwork communicate with the viewer! One important source of inspiration is music, the most abstract form of art that we have. He makes paintings inspired by music pieces. His has among others made 9 paintings, each inspired by one of Beethoven’s symphonies. And he has made on painting to each of the tracks on Miles Davis Kind of Blue album (on sale here). Because of his own developed working technique, his expressions have its own character and are quite easily recognised. His main media is acrylic on canvas. He is working with the canvas lying flat, and he says he has three assistants helping him: Water, Time and Gravity. Very often there are elements of happening in his works, also contributing to his expression. Besides music Folkvord can become inspired by almost anything! His most important tool he says, is his personality and perspective of things. But he identifies emotions as bearing motif in his works. Sometimes, he says, he has to fasten, using a few colours only. That might happen when he has been through a longer period with intensive colour work. For most of the time his works beam with colours, and there are very few of his works one doesn’t find the colour blue on one form or another. People who like his style may ask him to make a painting inspired by their favourite piece of music… Kjell Folkvord has lived and worked in London since 2010. He is a Norwegian by origin.
