ABOUT THE ARTWORK
There was an exhibit at the New Orleans Museum of Art a few years ago on the mutual influence of African art on Caribbean and North American Art. There was one painting at the end, a more modern one, with a line through it. The line was the Kalinga, the border between life and death. My mother was a year or so from passing over and I could feel that border weaving in and out of our lives. After she passed away I painted this.
