About The Artwork

Part of the Covid Love Story series - depicting true love through the chaos and the restrictions. The Kiss - Eyes Wide Open is an extension of the first piece in the series entitled The Kiss. Now we are looking through 'his' eyes, body and soul. It celebrates the passion and the longing, in trying times. As the days tick by, love finds a way, come what may. Eyes Wide Shut is another piece in the series (work in progress), whereby the subject remains focussed on the kiss, despite the destractions/resrtrictions imposed. With her Eyes Wide Open we see her 'knowing'. Have you ever had a sneaky peek while kissing? It can be unnerving to discover your partner staring right back. With so much on her mind I think we can appreciate her commitment and understand her concerns. NB: The mask is taken from the most treasured pattern once belonging to the artist's deceased mother in law. CHI = Life Source Acrylic and found media on 12mm pine veneer, floating 60mm from wall on hidden frame.

We are free to express ourselves. Making our mark helps us to find our place within the moment. The trick is to stay there. Liam studied at the London Institute and Brighton College of Art and Design in the UK. He worked in the design and illustration industry before packing his paint brush and moving to New Zealand in 2001. Wasting no time he set about creating and exhibiting across Auckland and even dabbled in running his own high street art gallery on Waiheke Island. Auckland has become Liam’s spiritual home, while he continues to find inspiration around most corners of New Zealand. From Rangitoto to the city, chaos to sustainability, following his heart, passions and observations. It’s all about the moment. Liam can usually be found painting in his garden studio in Laingholm, and he wouldn’t swap it for the world! Liam is on the Art Commission Ltd NZ advisory committee
