About The Artwork

Shapes of animals in clouds; dancing fairies in flowers petals; magical beasts in the mountains; and people in trees. Again inspired by nature, and this time a tree in someone's front garden in Zurich, Switzerland, 'The Lady In The Tree' is a silhouette against a vibrant blue background. The colour scheme for this painting is inspired by Belgian painter and muralist Constant Montald (1862-1944). Two of his paintings cover most of the wall space and dominate the reception area of Musees Royaux des Beaux Arts in Brussels, Belgium. The colours of the finished painting change as the light changes. I wanted this to be a bit more than just a silhouette with enough paint so that you can feel the brushstrokes on the tree at a closer distance. Tracing out the silhoutte on to black tissue paper and then cutting it out with a scalpel, I then applied that to the canvas which took me alot longer than I anticipated, it was the same applying the black paint over it whilst trying to keep the brush strokes as fine as the cutout but at the same time give them alot of depth. The artwork was originally intended to be oil on canvas but ended up all acrylic, and instead of using silver I opted for gold which changes and becomes more vibrant as the light changes on the painting. This painting was a fantastic challenge for me and I am pleased with the results. The painted sides are 2.5cm deep and unframed. Signed on the bottom side and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. This artwork will not be available for prints due to the changing face of this painting as light changes from sunrise to sunset, or where this artwork is placed which can not be replicated on any print.

My whole career and life had been within the newspaper industry culminating with a role as an Art Director for the Wall Street Journal. Then a few years ago I met my husband and he asked if I would move to Switzerland with him. My whole life changed. Finally I am able to reconnect with a part of my soul that remained buried for many years and I now write and illustrate children's books along with my greatest passion which is painting. Since writing the above I have relocated to Germany, and had a child. How beautiful to be able to reconnect with my childhood through the eyes of my child, and also my artwork.
