My art leans more towards impressionism with a touch of abstraction mixed in. My process for creating art is very meticulous. I love to research my subjects, plan the drawing or painting with different compositions, layouts and color combinations. I start by creating ideas in my sketchbook or iPad. I've discovered using software to brainstorm ideas and compositions is a great way to validate my ideas. I use oil and acrylics for my paintings. Charcoal is the main component for my drawings - I like the gritty feel and the ease with which I can capture a unique balance or connection between dark and light. I enjoy the buttery blending and ranges of techniques I can achieve with oils. Since acrylic paint dries very quickly, it allows me to layer the colors and work on larger scale paintings. My motivation for creating art comes from the need to constantly self-heal. Sometimes as an artist living in an analytical world, I become over stimulated with the details and demands that I need to conform to. So, through creating art, the universe has me tuned-in once again. Even if a piece is a failure, somehow I'm able to reconnect with the analytical world. Most of my art tells a story. I like to create art that lets the viewer "read" and “feel” the artwork and not just see it. Landscapes and seascapes tend to be recurring themes in my art. However I do enjoy creating the occasional portrait, nude or a still life in the style of the old master artists. My goal is not to create art that challenges the viewer to see the world differently or provoke a conversation. I hope that my artwork simply offers beauty and solace in this analytical world.
