About The Artwork
Inspired by Elaheh Tavakolian, an Iranian PDH student, says she was struck by several pellets during a recent protest and that she lost sight in one of her eyes as a result. Although it is not a portrait of her and has been made more generic to represent young women like her. The loss of the eye was part of the crack down on an uprising that is expected to lead what started as a feminist revolution. After killing and torture there were incidents of security forces aiming at the eyes with plastic bullets and blinding many. Protests and strikes have been happening across Iran. There have also been demonstrations internationally conducted by Iranians living outside the country. This oil painting is a homage to her and all Iranians who have been fighting for their freedom. the Iranian flag prior to the Islamic revolution was the Lion holding a sword with the Sun in the corner. This was a red, white and green flag. It was appropriate to make her the lioness!

I'm a British Iranian who lives in Switzerland. I started my Artistic life with photography and Drama. Later on I started to paint and make sculptures. I also started to write short stories. I like storytelling in the form of fictional characters that have a backstory. If you see the work there is a story for each of these invented characters. For many years I used my Art for Human rights awareness. I invented a new style called DaGod which was an offshoot of Dada but with protest against religious dogma. I'm in the middle of uploading my work so what you see here is a very small set.
