About The Artwork
This is a painting in my pattern and abstraction series where I am narrowing in on form and line by narrowing the colors to a monochromatic pallet. There is some beige from the raw canvas and some light yellow-brown paint snuck its way in, but this painting is very subdued color-wise compared to its siblings. I'm playing with different forms of mark making and repeating the same pattern (the grid formed by ovular shapes) at different scales and in different media. This self reference and tension between ordered structure and the chaotic form of the poured, dripped, and smeared paint create a sense of space within the painting that pulls you in and invites you to explore.

Blake Brasher is a visual artist who currently lives and works in Lowell, MA. He grew up In North Pole, Alaska, and also lived in Turkey, Texas, and Arizona before moving to Massachusetts to attend MIT. He earned a bachelor of science I. Art and design from MIT in 2003 and has also studied art at Harvard and CMU. He also works three days a week as a robotics engineer for Boston Dynamics in Waltham, MA and had a decade long career as a living statue in Harvard Square, Cambridge and other venues around the world.
