About The Artwork

The Next Three Years is a series of close-up portraits based on my photos and collage expressing emotional and mental states. It follows the series entitled The Last Two Years which I began the year, 2012, my mother died. I needed a strategy to continue working through the emotionally paralyzing grief so I assigned myself to paint a 4x4 inch face a day. Sometimes painting up to 5 a day the series quickly grew into a large grid. Alternative photos shows 166 installed at sevenminusseven gallery in the USVirgin Islands. We sold around 80 there and I continued painting and selling them in groups. In 2020 I framed and sold the last 64 of 244 total to a collector who had seen them 3 years earlier at a NYC exhibit. I recently left my Brooklyn studio of the last decade to move into a house/studio in New Jersey. With a similar idea of assigning the face paintings as I am experiencing the disequilibrium of a major life change I've set the goal to create 12 rows of 12. In the meantime I will sell them individually or in groups handpicked by the collector.
