About The Artwork

Beautiful painting inspired by the wonderful Leonard Cohen - When I am painting the Leonard Cohen painting series I am always listening to his music at the same time. I hope the viewers think ´Wow how cool is this painting of Leonard - He looks so cool - as he is! Hood Graduated London Central St Martins 2005 Masters Degree Fine Art - Van Gogh - He is my inspiration also - The way he made the marks on the canvas with his brush and the oil paint - The colours so vivid - Van Gogh he is my inspiration for sure - I hope the viewer will think that the artist (me) draws a fine divide between existentialism of freedom of choice and the juxtaposed concept of light against texture - The medium I choose is oil paint on canvas because that is the best quality paint - One can only get the vibrance of depth through the medium of oil paint - and on a superb heavy duty cotton canvas it is of the highest quality - The texture of the canvas grips the oil paint and makes the painting more interesting with great depth - Hood 19tth February 2023

Biography details 1964 Born St Asaph 25th September 2000 – 2001 Studies at Camberwell College of Arts, London 2003 – 2005 Studies at Central St Martins College of Art and Design, London Sarah Hood is a figurative painter influence and inspired by the Fauvist artist in art history. Coming from the French word fauve, meaning "wild animals," Fauvism rejected traditional painting ideals and emphasized modern concepts. Inspired by the late impressionist works of Paul Gauguin and Vincent Van Gogh who pushed the boundaries with their bold colour choices, Hood takes this idea a step further to include simplified design. Whilst studying for her painting degree at Manchester Hood set about writing a 10,000 word dissertation titled ' Primitivism in Art'. It was here that she learnt that the Fauvist’s work was derived from primitive and tribal art; also about Paul Gauguin’s color choice and style. Hood gives life to her paintings with her use of intense colours. The primary focus of Hood's paintings is her application of non-naturalistic and vibrant colour.
