About The Artwork

In the center of the picture, deep darkness and bright light stand close together and seem almost interwoven. In mysticism, one speaks of the divine darkness and the hidden light that dwells within man, in his heart. This light of the soul is love. In the first letter of John of the New Testament it says: "God is love, and he who dwells in love dwells in God and God in him". In a constant becoming, this light is born, it rises in the innermost heart of our being.

My name is Zensho W. Kopp. I was born in 1938 and I am an authorised Zen master, artist and author. For over thirty years now I have been in charge of the Zen Center Tao Chan in Wiesbaden, Germany. From a young age, I became very interesting in Asian wisdom teachings and began an extensive study of the scriptures of Zen Buddhism, Taoism and West-Eastern spirituality. The richness of inner life which I experienced through meditation and contemplation became a profound inspiration for my art. Since then, it has been the focus of my painting to fathom the innermost core of things and to express them in a free-flowing way.
