'The Road That Murray Graded' Painting

This large painting depicts a dirt road slicing its way through rough Mallee sand dunes. It was inspired by my uncle Murray Taylor who spent his whole working life grading roads such as this – sleeping out under the stars away from his family for long periods of time, but it was a life he loved. On completing a road he would turn the grader around, return home for a brief period and then start grading it all over again. He never accepted promotion, or a job closer to home – grading his road was his life. Murray was also a renowned bushman with the ability to live off the land like the indigenous bushmen he so respected. A truly great Australian.
