About The Artwork

Brockenhurst We had been for a very long, tiring cycle ride near Brockenhurst, in England’s lovely New Forrest, Hampshire. On this beautiful hot day, our group of nine cyclists were grateful to find a cool leafy glade to get some shade and cool off a bit. Under a canopy of trees, children were taking turns on a rope swing that hung over a shallow river. As fast I could, I pulled out my 'phone and took a shot of the scene. Dark shadow beneath the shade of trees, interspersed with splotches of bright sunlight filtering through the leaves - I already knew I had captured a great idea for a painting. Back in the studio, I tried to recreate the high degree in contrast of light and dark. Later, when showing the painting at an exhibition in Chelsea Old Town Hall, I was bemused to hear an observer say, “I know exactly the location of that painting.” “Really, ... how so?” I asked, intrigued. The lady replied, “Because my husband had a go on that swing, and fell in the water.” The finished size including the frame is 55 x 66 cm.

Original paintings and drawings, giclée prints and handmade crafts Milton developed a love for art, drawing and making things as a child. He bought himself some oil paints around age 16 and just started playing with paint, experimenting, making mistakes, learning and having fun. Later, he investigated other media, materials and techniques and through this process, developed an ability to view things and express ideas in a wide variety of styles, as can be seen in his current work, which ranges from figurative to abstract. In 2023 The Royal Society of British Artists (RBA) accepted one of Milton's works at their bicentennial exhibition at the Mall Galleries and another of his paintings received an acknowledgement at the New English Art Club (NEAC). Milton currently lives and works from his studio in West London. Milton also organises 'one man shows' at various venues in London each year.
