About The Artwork

"The Rose of Strange Places", 2015, acrylic on wood, 24 inches wide by 30 inches tall (60 x 75 cm). A fantastic landscape of crystalline structures, folded space, and filigree clouds is dominated by a single rose, the one stable object in the chaos. This picture evokes the arcane and often beautiful symbolism of alchemy and magic. Acrylic paint and plaster dust are layered with broad curves of cut paper in natural brown and moss green, then sanded. This process is repeated to create a complex and ambiguous surface. On this surface -- and re-establishing its flatness -- are filigree patterns in white, off-white, gray and green, suggesting clouds. Hovering above everything is a red rose, painted in a naturalistic style in acrylic. This picture is ready to hang; signed and dated both front and back, with the title on the back.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Born in Montgomery, Alabama, and raised in the rural Appalachian foothills of the northeastern part of the state, my childhood was surrounded by the natural world, the rigid social and cultural traditions of the deep South, the distant rumblings of 1960's social changes, and the panoramas of human existence revealed to me through reading, music and art. Most of my adult life has been spent working as a graphic designer in Birmingham, South Florida, and Dallas -- primarily in the television industry -- where I was immersed yet another hybrid universe, a fun-house world of ego, transitory celebrity, and social manipulation. These days I live and work in a cabin on the edge of the Ozark National Forest in northwest Arkansas, decompressing.
