The Search Party Painting

After his first months and experiences back in NYC, Cotto felt that he no longer identified with some of the older works he had created in Charleston. For this reason and shortage of funds and supplies after his costly move to the Big Apple, the artist painted over some of his earlier works. Originally, this piece was painted for the Contemporary Charleston 2010: Influence show at the prestigious Charleston City Gallery on the harbor. It was an art nouveau influenced piece titled 'The Reluctant Bride' and featured a beautiful young Asian bride wearing a koi inspired headdress sitting in a riverboat riddled with arrows. Much of the original piece can be seen in the forms of the horses. The words DONDE ESTA MI AMOR are hidden throughout the painting in small three dimensional letters.
