This is one of my most important works to date. I began The Sinner and His Mourners at the age of 18 and completed it at 21. This remarkably long time span is due to it coinciding with a transitional period in my life which is reflected in the work itself. This piece encompasses four relationships, their endings and beginning respectively. The two male figures represent one individual and in a broader sense the duality of man. The female to the left represents the role of the mother and the female to the right, individuality and self reliance pertaining to human relationships. The dove in her hand however is a reference the the Holy Spirit, she clings to it and adores it's beauty. The grey male under her foot is a demon she is stepping over, a symbol I received in a dream. I could elaborate on the story but I prefer to keep personal details just for myself, and I think the work has a greater voice when explained in broad terms. Oil on streched canvas Hanging hardware included Staples on sides, buyer will most likely want to frame the painting.

Self taught painter/sculptor from Battle Creek, Michigan. I seek to develop an aesthetic using contemporary language grounded in the classical traditions. The styling of figures, paint application and narrative are important to me. I’m always experimenting with new ways to create, from conception and the gathering of information to the application of media. In regard to substance, although my works are largely esoteric I envision them with a greater purpose. I want to share the truths I've found and hopefully make an impact on individual lives. The meanings or stories of my paintings come from real places, things I've experienced, though things are not usually taken literally. This can be a rather ambiguous mode of communication as the real and the symbolic intermingle, and because my primary area of interest is a spiritual one with the unique challenge of representing the unseen with in limited visual devices.
