About The Artwork
Local waterways and marshes are very arresting particularly when drenched in sunlight, so for me the challenge is to capture the magical display and communicate it to the viewer. Artists like Caspar David Friedrich and the late Michael Andrews looked to explore places of isolation allowing the soul and conscience to recover from life's turmoil. I would like the viewers to feel a calmness and to challenge their concept of what simple landscape looks like. I always paint in oil preferring to flow the paint in a controlled way, layering as I develop the painting.
