About The Artwork
A picture in the newspaper of a horse burned by forest fire was the beginning of a series of paintings I made for a Rilke exhibition. The bare horse lay on his back with his legs up, it was almost human. It was no animal anymore, no strange and incomprehensible being. It was as if I could understand this animal, this equine, as an abstraction of the whole world. The white horse on this painting is entering the world, looking back to the first sound, the sound of the first day.
