About The Artwork

A commissioned painting for the Queensland Reds Rugby Union Gala Ball to bid farewell to their championship winning captain, James Horwill. The painting is inspired by the year they won the Super Rugby competition, the games they played leading up to the final, capturing the leaders fear amid the moment in time he was unaware of his men's triumphant future. In particular, the only Reds game Featonby attended that year as he was lived half a world away, at the other end of Australia. Perth, WA. Funnily enough, at the time Featonby never fathomed leaving Perth but eventually decided moving his young family to across the country was best to further his creative career and pursue the opportunities the east coast have to offer. One of those opportunites, designer at the Reds, rugby & drawing, the dream. "The Unknowing" July, 2011 _ East Perth — Western Force, a fairly new team struggling to find their feet, played host to the rugby powerhouse from the Sunny State of Queensland. The visitors were quickly building a reputation as crowd-favourite, a young and exciting team with flair and innovation, tipped to finish on top by the critics. "I remember the game fondly, my Dad and I were Western Force members attending all the games together but this was the first time I left early to attend a music gig. The Reds were looking the goods and Quade (Cooper) was at his vintage best. I was confident they (Reds) were going to get up. The game was still on the tv when I arrived at the pub and to my disbelief, Force had clawed their way back into the competition. Why'd I leave! " The Reds eventually powered over the valiant hosts and thwarted any inkling of an embarrasing upset. So, This is the moment. This is that time. The time the future is fear. The time a leader needs to be fearless. The time he is filled with fear. The time he shows no fear. The fear for his mens future. The fear of the future. This is the fear. This is the unknowing. "How was I to know I'd end up living in Brisbane? How would I know I'd be working in rugby, working for the Reds, falling in love with the enemy? How am I face to face with my heroes? How was I to know? How are we to know? No one knows. The unknowing" ___ 31 July, 2015 Queensland Reds Gala Ball & Auction Royal International Convention Centre Brisbane, Australia
