About The Artwork

Kuldiga, a beautiful old town in Latvia. Was founded in the 13th century. And in the 17th century it was one of the richest and one of the largest trading cities in Latvia. This was expressed in the rich stone and wooden architecture of that era and in the beautiful streets, with lovely courtyards, a river and bridges right between the houses. A bit like Venice, only here it is mixed with the inherited German culture, the conditions of harsh winters and a large amount of greenery and parks. In my work, I wanted to show the cosiness of antiquity, its originality, the irregularity of the geometry that the landscape requires and the harmony with nature, tremulousness, softness in every detail. Someone can see here a symbol of the contact of two worlds, two souls. And to inspire different personal philosophical reflections. A flock of pigeons enlivens this landscape. They take us back to the sweet bustle of the world. It is close to impressionism or expressionism style, with bright colours and warming mood. Artwork was created in 2020.

Searching for my own path in painting took me a certain time. It has passed nine years since my first attempts to paint. However, during last several years I have started feeling self-assured, as my works reached desired level of skilfulness and artistic approach, and I really started liking them. Currently my love to post-impressionist artists' paintings became especially strong. I am often inspired by the works of Vincent van Gogh, Henri Toulouse-Lautrec, Edouard Vuillard, Albert Marquet, and Latvian artist Janis Valters. Most of all I value coloristic beauty of their works as well as the artists’ ability to show the weather conditions and the state of the nature with one brush stroke. Now I look into the future with greater confidence, think over new creative plans, and expect fulfilling them!
