About The Artwork

"...The wave follows the wave against the shore to beat " These are lines from a poem by the famous Soviet poet Arseny Tarkovsky (father of the world famous film director Andrei Tarkovsky). The poem is called "And I Dreamed It ...". The painting "The Wave Is Coming ..." originated in my mind under the influence of reading Kandinsky and the lines that came to mind about the wave. The picture contains a certain thought: the coming clash of the opposing sides of one element is inevitable and an absolutely other side, another element, another completely plane of the world will take over this battle, this collision, this struggle. This is equivalent to the piled up clouds in the sky before a lightning strike, a thunderstorm in the sky. That is the nature of the fight. This picture can be placed on the wall from different sides, since it does not have clear definite perspectives of the image. The painting was written in early December 2020. (the picture is stretched on a stretcher and is ready to be poisoned to the buyer at any time)

"I love the dreamy yet realistic aspect you bring out in your work. It’s like a modern day Van Gogh. Keep working at it! Your art is beautiful I would love to see it in a museum one day!" - perhaps it is with this quote that I will characterize my oeuvre as a whole, which a subscriber from Atlanta Georgia (USA) once wrote to me on Instagram, expressing a personal opinion about my art. I am a self-taught artist. I am 39 years old (born in 1981), Now I live, work in St. Petersburg (Russia). I took my very first steps in painting at the age of 9-10, when I lived in an orphanage. For the first time I took oil when I was 21 years old. I try to constantly connect the unconnected - two worlds for me, real, the one that surrounds me in everyday life and the world of my fantasies, dreams, desires. This requires a constant search in the expressive aspect. Perhaps that is why I deliberately do not dwell on a certain handwriting, genre, style, technique, which is very very often inherent in artists. If you may call it, then my painting is purely individual. * (My email: nikolashapovalo@yandex.ru, as well as links to my social networks under the profile photo).
