The Wild Moor Painting

This painting was inspired by the wild Dartmoor weather. Walking and running up the hill near her house, Sophie truly experiences all the wind, rain, and even sideways hail. Whilst one could find this unpleasant, Sophie loves it. It is exhilarating. Coming home to a warm studio and having a cup of tea, Sophie created this painting. Dartmoor looks different everyday and aiming to capture the wild beauty is something Sophie wanted to do in this painting. The viewer should find this painting moody and intriguing. Like looking at a storm through a window, there is something comforting as well as exciting. Sophie painted this piece in oil paint on cotton canvas. It is a landscape painting but has a hint of abstract expressionism about it in the lower half. Built up of thin layers and washes.
