As a visual person, my eyesight is everything. As an artist, who paints, whtout my eye, I feel I would be "reduced". This year I face the trauma of potentially losing the sight in my right eye, when a tear was found in my retina. Although I had immedite surgery, the fear I felt reamined throught the whole healing process, as I failed to see the details in my beloved landscapes that I was used to seeing. I had a veil and line across my sight that had been repaired but the "shadow" of it remained for weeks, which is hinted at in a couple of the paintings. Everything became a blur, and it occured to me as we were driving a local rural road, that I needed to record this event in my life given the chance. It was with huge relief that the covers came off my eye and my sigh gradually returned, albeit not the same as before, as I am now long sighted in one eye, and short sighted in the other. A situation that I hope to remeidy when I can afford to have new glasses made up, which at the moment is not possible. Given these issues, I am happy that back in the studio, I have been able to record my experience in a triptych named "The Year I Lost Sight, I-3" which can be purchased as a single artwork, or as three individual paintings.
