I have recently worked this painting further to bring form to the seated and left hand figure that had previously been outlined only, as well as adding a horizontal plane. This means colour, line and form is subtly changed across the whole work whilst exploring the nature of who we are, who influences us, who shapes us, within a series of movement paintings over the years. Are we as others see us. Privileged to paint a model in the life affirming stages of pregnancy allows this to continue. The softly transparent use of overlaid lines and gentle yellows and the blue tones of Paynes grey give this a nurturing feel with a seated, reflective, looking. The proudly maternal stance of the right hand figure suggests strength and defiance, whilst the central seated figure shows the norm and the resigned waiting.

Prue Pye - artist statement I am a painter. My whole approach seeks to capture the multi faceted layers and non topical colour that exists within us.. It is a search for an essential humanness, and therefore faces are not recorded, but hinted at; a sense of universality and truth. My work is about trying to understand how we are perceived, how that is informed and whether that fleeting perception is important. The paintings use and embody, strength and frailty, energy and movement and a self imposed position of uncertainty is part of this. Faced with a beautiful view - the way in which we seem to measure, display, judge ourselves - my reaction is to turn and find something hidden and less apparent. The physicality of placing colour on a surface, in ways that express or communicate is a vital part of why I paint and has developed from a need to find a language that connects beyond the immediate. www.pruepye.co.uk www.facebook.com/PruePye
