About The Artwork

This work depicts classical Christmas/New Year postcard image with some editions. Every inch of the painting is "decorated" with code. Actually the decorative elements here are not decorations at all, but the core and essential content of the work, and the base - popular Christmas picture - is a cover and a frame for the content core. Which is the code - decorative "snowflakes" - latin alphanumericals and hanzi letters. The "snowflakes" on the Christmas tree branches here are the words of the popular classic Christmas song "Rockin' around the Christmas tree" encoded into hexadecimal (16-digit) code. The icicle has the encoded into hexadecimal system words of the popular classic Christmas song "Silent Night". The balls have the hexadecimal encoded lyrics for the song "Jingle Bell Rock". The hexadecimal code here is also a reference to blockchain technology. The "language" used by machines is basically binary, hexadecimal and others (Base 64, Base 32, etc) encodings provide human-friendly representation of binary values. And the "snowflakes" falling on the background are the binary code of the phrases "Happy New Year" and "Merry Christmas" written with hanzi characters (零 - 0, 壹 - 1 - anti-fraud form of "one" numeral). Hanzi characters here also represent one of the first binary systems and refer to yin-yang philosophy and polarity of the world. Thus all together it makes the picture a kind of "code of Christmas and New Year" variation. The painting reflects some dynamics, I try to put emotions and appropriate mood into the code and the work.

I do like exploring global and fundamental concepts of existence and their manifestation in our present being. I am inspired by philosophy, metaphysics, human history and culture. I'm also interested in our new way of reality such as the new digital reality and it's relation and interaction with our physical reality. The virtual reality is becoming more and more real and there is a parallel with Eastern philosophies' consept of Maya, the illusion of this world. I am fascinated with the idea of subconscious effect of the art and I like exploring the ways of the impact. As of now I tend to minimalistic forms of expression, reducing the artworks to basic shapes and colors. I am inspired by really different forms of art and culture of various styles and times. But as of now one of my major sources of inspiration is abstract art of the beginning of the 20th century - Kandinsky, Hilma af Klint, Malevich, Piet Mondriaan, Paul Klee, Franz Marc. And abstract expressionism artists - Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, Cy Twombly, Lee Krasner.
