About The Artwork
Who really knows the innermost thoughts of people, and could they ever be categorised? What if they could be listed, rather like titles on a pile of books? This work tries to get inside the mind of the artist and identify typical areas of thought at the time when the painting was created. And, being an introspective art, there are several devices within the composition to emphasise this - such as the hands wrapped anxiously around the lower arms, and the eyes with their distant gaze. The books themselves are painted in shades of orange and red to accentuate the high level of intensity prevalent within each topic.
