There's a Spaceship on the Sea Floor Painting

Joanna Kuhling is a self taught painter from Vancouver, British Columbia. Her pieces reflect her love of natural surroundings, in particular exploring without a destination or a plan. It’s an important part of her process to adapt to the shapes and images as they spontaneously appear on the canvas. Her pieces are comprised of a combination of textured paper, etchings and color portraying bird’s eye images of oceans and the earth’s surface. The paintings often portray watery undercurrents, exploring wounds inflicted on the earth as well as the intricacy, delicacy and movement in our natural habitat. Joanna uses color and texture to evoke mood and memory, to capture not only the spirit of a place but the depth of the experiences contained therein. Her paintings are a collection of cathartic moments when external and internal landscapes merge.
