About The Artwork

I particularly enjoy traditional glazing styles, while trying to make my subject contemporary. My subjects are usually of the places I have visited, and love to be; the sea being a frequent subject in my work, as I am fascinated by its energy, movement and power. Behind each of my paintings is a story and a motive, most commonly relating to my background and experience in Psychology. I have a huge passion for the sea. I am fascinated by its vast scale, energy and its potential to use its steely strength in destructive ways. The sea’s characteristics, emulate, in my opinion, those of a person, something which we can all relate to, in different ways. My Sea Series paintings, are of the sea, but about the beauty, strength and unstoppable force of life. Hopefully, this painting is not only pleasing to look at and creates a reaction from the viewer, but it also tells a story; ideally a different story to every pairs of eyes who see it. Personally for me, 'There must be rough before the calm' captures how nature and human existence is such a beautiful thing, but must be treated with delicacy and with the knowledge that rough times will pass, and will always revert back to being as beautiful as before.

I am a professional artist, based in North Norfolk where I work as an contemporary Oil Painter, and Tutor/ Studio Manager, at the Norfolk Painting School (UK's leading specialists in oil painting). Raised and educated in North Norfolk, I have always been surrounded by beauty, which inspired my passion for painting from a very early age. I could paint before I could write. I have painted throughout education, successes and failures, and it has always served a deep rooted purpose of release. When I was 20 I dropped out of university, where I was studying a Psychiatric Nursing degree, to become a full time Artist. Going against the grain, I am determined to make Art my career, to pursue something I love and live for. I work in oil paints, mainly focusing on painting florals. I particularly enjoy traditional glazing styles, while trying to make my subject contemporary. I have always struggled to articulate why I paint, so I always tell people to look at my paintings, as I hope they answer the question for me. I am inspired by Matisse, Hockney, Monet and Van Gogh.
