About The Artwork

THERIANTHROP Therianthropes have no need to dress in fur suits because they believe that inside they are already their animal. With Therianthrop, artist Ecker opens another excursion into the origins of modern "Homo Aestheticus" symbolized by body figures lined up around the picture plane. Connected by their gender, they form a powerful community whose happiness is based on each other. The cave figures are ephemeral but the principle of a strong community is still present today. The sculpture-like painting, composed of three layers of oil paint and real silver, achieves a three-dimensional view with edges and surfaces that protrude, giving the viewer the feeling of a cave experience that connects the past with the present. The inspiration of the painting is based on many years of exploration of our ancestors, multiple visits to iconic places such as Tassili n'Ajjer, Grotte Chauvet, Lascaux, Peche Merle, Hollow Rock. . .

Martin Ecker (*1963 in Frankfurt am Main Germany) lives and works in Berlin. Ecker began his artistic work as a musician at the age of 14, later adding performance and acting until he began to work with painting, photography and video art. Martin Ecker is a German photographer and painter who has devoted much of his work to deciphering the reaction of chance and intention. His fascination with experimenting with reactive processes is of great importance: the observation, the action and reaction, the staging. In addition, Ecker has developed unique methods, such as the use of living organisms in photography or oxidation processes in painting. Space, time and light are recurring themes. His works can be found in international collections, companies, private collectors and art lovers.
