There is an animal native to South America called the Maned Wolf. I’ve long wanted to feature it in a painting. It is elegant, surreal and otherworldly. Here, my stylized version of it lives in this symbolic dreamscape with regards to the idea of desire. I am referring to the benign and natural human desire to expand. To be and experience more in life. That desire is wild and hungry and always on the hunt for fulfillment. But it must also at times rest and allow the objects of its desires to naturally come to it. As symbolized by the butterflies attracted to the milkweed blossoms growing from its antlers.

About the Artist Award-winning oil painter Paul Bond was born in 1964 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and currently lives and works in Southern California and Costa Rica. Paul Bond's art lives in the spaces between dreaming and reality. Drawing from the Latin American genre of Magic Realism, his paintings merge symbolic, surreal and fantastic elements with realistic atmospheres to unveil a world where everything is possible. At times, they simply express a whimsical aspect of life. Yet most works also carry deeper metaphysical and philosophical messages illuminating the world of our dreams and subconscious thoughts, fears and hopes. Bond’s work has won numerous awards and been featured in galleries, museums and cultural centers, including The Gateway Museum and The San Diego Art Institute. His paintings are now in private collections throughout the US, and worldwide. Corporate collections include Fox, Warner Bros and NBC Studios, Royal Caribbean International, Marriott Hotels, Scripps and Stanford Hospitals; and his works are featured in numerous contemporary art publications.
