ABOUT THE ARTWORK

They are Gouldian finches (Chloebia gouldiae), of which probably less than 3000 wild birds remain, in northern Australia. The species was first described in 1844, by ornithologist-publisher John Gould. He named the species in honour of his then-deceased wife Elizabeth. Elizabeth Gould was one of the primary illustrators of Gould's very famous books, as was also Edward Lear. That's "first described" for European science, of course: undoubtedly, indigenous Australians of the region already had names for this incredible bird. Wild populations have three co-existing colour variants (as shown): black-face (commonest), red-face and orange-face (rarest). Bit like brown/blue/green eyes in humans. The words they speak: that's for you to interpret, not me to explain.

SHIPPING AND RETURNS
Delivery Time:

Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

My art imagines what birds might say if they could speak our language. They would fear and hate us, surely: we are fast destroying their planet. They would tell us to stop before it's too late. But perhaps they'd frame that with love. I think they'd frame it with love. Contact:
