Thou Art That Painting

Covid lockdown caught me without art supplies, so I made a series of works on paper using materials I had around- a couple water color pencils, some cuttlefish ink for black and espresso for rich brows. I chose to depict the delicate things of the world- hummingbirds, dragonflies, and endangered species. These pieces all reflect the incredible sense of delicacy we all felt in the throws of the pandemic, and feel still. Vulnerability need not be a hinderance, after all, the last part of the word is ability. Each piece is actually two pieces of paper sandwiched together- you can see the color of the background paper coming through the translucent vellum, with a stamp on it- the Sanskrit phrase tat tvam asi- "thou art that." Its is a reminder of how interconnected we all are. It was an important thing to remember when we were all so isolated. Something tells me it will be important to remember again.
