About The Artwork

The work is titled 'Thought Process' to relay the formation of ideas and the purging of that onto canvas. The formation of ideas generally come from pondering an experience, a deep thought and an assessment of surroundings. I wanted to convey a visual of the thought process and it's messiness onto canvas. I want viewers to feel the juxtaposing colours, the bold lines and mayhem of ideas and what they look like in visual form. This is what I imagine ideas look like before they become something solidified in a persons mind. That will then be part of their story, pattern of behaviour or things they tell their friends. I choose Abstract expressionism for the style as I felt it best portrayed the subject matter of the 'Thought Process' and the rawness needed to communicate that concept.

Alexis Mcfarland (LX) is an Australian-Filipino contemporary abstract artist based in Toronto, Canada. In her work she is inspired by human psychology and the conscious and unconscious combination of thoughts and emotions. This theme is heavily explored in her abstract expressionism work and portrait pieces she creates. Artist Statement: Delving into the human psyche and exploring an individuals experience both positive and negative, light and dark is what fascinates me. People are so different, yet so similar and I like to paint in an intuitive state from the direct experience of the people I meet, my life and the transference of the collective consciousness. Painting is a purging of emotion from what I have seen and learnt of others and the experience in my own life. Psychology and human behaviour are ever interesting and I will continue to go to the depths of human mind and soul.
