About The Artwork

Why did the cobblers prettiest daughter die before mariage? A gothic roman-fantasy. The semi-blind cobbler's daughter had three legs and one hoof ever since she born. Her father hid this fact by making a custom pair of shoes. One had an opening for three legs and the other one could perfectly accommodate the hoof. The daughter would wear them under a grand, puffy dress and go for promenades around town, so all the citizens seemed to be under her spell. One day a local tailor fell in love with her and to everyone's delight, the feeling was mutual. The gentleman soon proposed and the day of the wedding was set. Preparation were in full swing but the cobbler was so anxious to get everything right that he mixed up the prosthetics that led to the shoes unfit for the brides legs. Alas, on the day of the wedding the pretty daughter died of despair and fear that her disability would be uncovered before due time. Neither her heart, nor mind could reconcile to the idea of appearing in such unbecoming sight in front of the groom.

I was exposed to art from a very early age - my mother is a practising painter and a teacher at an art school in Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan. I used to hang around there a lot because there wasn’t anyone to look after me at home…I was a bit of a black sheep because exact sciences were not my forte and I was more into the history of art, fine art, etc. I am dyslexic and used to muddle up the word order and syllables in class when I was nervous. I’m also ambidexter. I wrote in workbooks with my left hand and on the class board – with my right. Everyone laughed but it felt so natural to me.
