Thunderball Bridge - Old Paradise Island Print

While taking a walk in the early morning in 1971 on Paradise Island, Bahamas - I found this bridge, with elegant stairways winding down to the sidewalks at waters edge. This serene setting of water, stone, and beautiful landscaping across the way impelled me to take a picture for a keepsake. This bridge and grotto has been a focal point of several James Bond scenes in the movie "Thunderball". https://huntingbond.com/james-bond-thunderball-bahamas-atlantis/ Unfortunately, this bridge has since been reworked as one much more utilitarian. I started the painting of the inland side of the bridge, with it's stairways and with the ocean breakwater showing in the background past the bridge (see the above movie pic). Because the harsh lines of the breakwater clashed with the elegant beauty of the bridge, I painted over the breakwater with a scene of the breaking waves of Bahamian shallows in the background of the bridge. The clear waters of an outgoing tide moving swiftly toward the dynamics of energized wave action coming from ocean-side, allowed me to give the waters a character that I had often seen while viewing similar inlet conditions on Miami Beach, in the late 1950's.
