Showed at the The Other Art Fair
Artist featured in a collection
This painting depicts a small shop front in Hoxton, a part of East London that continues to grow and change. As development continues all around, this is a place that seems (superficially at least) unchanged by the pervading narrative.

Born in Sheffield, Jo’s career as a professional artist started in 2008 after completing a degree [Illustration BA Hons] at Falmouth Art College. The central theme in Jo’s practice is Urban Regeneration. The topic has continued to engage Jo for over 15 years in an exploration of the interplay between the man-made & natural world. Jo reflects her observations through her practice in the form of large scale wall murals, paintings on canvas, screen printing & animation. Urban regeneration is pertinent in the context of the immediate challenges we face as a society, brought about by the pandemic, political & economic instability & increased polarisation of society. Our ability to regenerate ourselves & our environment has never been so important. We are in a moment of change; the interplay between environment & urban space reflecting back everyday experience whilst giving a view into potential (more optimistic) futures. Jo has created large-scale murals [including murals painted in Sheffield, Japan (Tokyo), & Poland (Wroclaw)], traditional canvas (for solo exhibitions including Sheffield’s Millennium Gallery, London’s Moniker Art Fair, & Art of Protest Gallery, York), & painstakingly composed stop-motion animations, initially created independently & subsequently commissioned by Chanel and the London Legacy Commission in the Olympic Park. CLIENTS INCLUDE Hackney Council, NHS, Chanel, Southbank Centre, Moniker Art Fair, Dulux, RHS Chelsea Flower Show, Glastonbury Festival, Sheffield University, Leeds Council, Moniker Projects, London Legacy Development Commission, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Canals and River Trust
