About The Artwork
Although abstract in nature, the work is inspired by the changes on landscape over time. It is influenced by memory of places and the rocky landscape that surrounds where I live. It is a calming piece. There are many layers of glazing used that reveal elements of the sub drawing and previous layers of paint. This is intentional and adds to the theme of the changes on landscape over periods of time, both through the effects of man as well as the environment.

Although my paintings are inspired by the landscape I see around me, they are very expressive in nature. None are a copy of a particular place. Through both observation and memory I like to create abstract scenes that conjure up an emotional response. I enjoy letting the archeology of a piece show, allowing under drawn sections to play an important role in finished work. In my early career I worked as a graphic designer, later on moving to concentrate on fine art both as a practitioner and teacher.
