About The Artwork
Presented in a slim, black float frame. Ready to hang. Painted onto wood panel. The work is inspired by the rocks and hills that surround where I live in the peak district landscape. Although it is abstract it is inspired by memories of place. The Title 'Time Passages' refers to the subtle changes in the landscape over time, weathering as well as the effects of climate change and man. Transparent areas of glazing and translucent layers show some of the drawn mark making below painted layers as well as other areas of thickly applied paint. This is all symbolic of the marks left behind as time passes.

Although my paintings are inspired by the landscape I see around me, they are very expressive in nature. None are a copy of a particular place. Through both observation and memory I like to create abstract scenes that conjure up an emotional response. I enjoy letting the archeology of a piece show, allowing under drawn sections to play an important role in finished work. In my early career I worked as a graphic designer, later on moving to concentrate on fine art both as a practitioner and teacher.
