About The Artwork

While working on this piece and contemplating possible titles, Pink Floyd’s song Time came on (from which I borrowed a line). It’s a cautionary tale about squandered youth and the relentless advance of age, and it spoke to me as an appropriate metaphor for this piece, which captures a delicate moment in the life of a young girl on her life’s journey. A magic spell is simply the words we speak and what we believe about ourselves. It is our intention, which becomes the difference between a life of slow decline, or a joyful and ever expanding dance towards our full potential. The scene was further inspired by the figurative works of 19th Century artist, William Adolphe Bouguereau.

About the Artist Award-winning oil painter Paul Bond was born in 1964 in Guadalajara, Mexico, and currently lives and works in Southern California and Costa Rica. Paul Bond's art lives in the spaces between dreaming and reality. Drawing from the Latin American genre of Magic Realism, his paintings merge symbolic, surreal and fantastic elements with realistic atmospheres to unveil a world where everything is possible. At times, they simply express a whimsical aspect of life. Yet most works also carry deeper metaphysical and philosophical messages illuminating the world of our dreams and subconscious thoughts, fears and hopes. Bond’s work has won numerous awards and been featured in galleries, museums and cultural centers, including The Gateway Museum and The San Diego Art Institute. His paintings are now in private collections throughout the US, and worldwide. Corporate collections include Fox, Warner Bros and NBC Studios, Royal Caribbean International, Marriott Hotels, Scripps and Stanford Hospitals; and his works are featured in numerous contemporary art publications.
