Transforming Painting

This portrait is based on a photograph of my daughter when she was seven years old and was frequently experimenting with face paints. After she was 'painted' she was emboldened to try out different ways of speaking and moving to go with her new face. As we age and are burdened with the demands life places on us, we tend to develop increasingly fixed notions of our own and others' identities. This painting is a reminder that identity is constantly evolving, even in adulthood, if we allow ourselves to incorporate creativity and reflection in our lives.
