About The Artwork

TRUST EROSION Gold in the age of trust erosion. . . Since years, the golden color is present in the work of Martin Ecker. Gold is a solid and hollow color as well; it irradiates and reflects. In the artwork of Martin Ecker, it covers and discovers. By suggesting a paint colored background, which thick material here and there emerges and in a similar way to the hedonistic landscape, it invites the audience to look above the image's surface. According to Goethe, art lies between materiality and spirituality. In many cultures, gold does as well,it is the ultimate precious metal: stainless, the materialized divine principle. In Martin Eckers artwork, gold is mostly altered. Besides real gold, the precious color is sometimes represented by copper, or sometimes by gold imitation. Framing on request

Martin Ecker (*1963 in Frankfurt am Main Germany) lives and works in Berlin. Ecker began his artistic work as a musician at the age of 14, later adding performance and acting until he began to work with painting, photography and video art. Martin Ecker is a German photographer and painter who has devoted much of his work to deciphering the reaction of chance and intention. His fascination with experimenting with reactive processes is of great importance: the observation, the action and reaction, the staging. In addition, Ecker has developed unique methods, such as the use of living organisms in photography or oxidation processes in painting. Space, time and light are recurring themes. His works can be found in international collections, companies, private collectors and art lovers.
