About The Artwork

1st panel: Black Devil and Gaia. The narrative starts with a dark atmosphere, with the pale light emitted by the black devil fish, an animal that lives in the abyssal depths, in the eternal gloaming and uses its own light to attract its prey. The contradiction where light means death. However, its light guides our gaze revealing the symbol of Gaia, our mother, our planet which, due to its perfect location in space, allows life to sprout in profusion. 2nd panel: The Giant Moon Fish or Mola Mola is the largest bony fish, reaching more than 2 tons. The female of the species is one of the most fertile on the planet, capable of laying 300 million eggs. A truly female force of life, to guarantee the species survival. In this frame we see her with various symbols of fertility and the life cycle of different beliefs and cultures. 3rd panel: The ultimate expression of the state of narcosis, the woman herself, with hair of light, skin of gold that can be seen through the lens of the dive mask, and beams of light that reveal the darkness of the soul’s eternal mysteries. She completes the narrative and gives meaning to the curvilinear movement of the previous works, revealing that they are, in fact, the contours of her body, starting with the black devil fish that comes out between her legs, representing the force of life, passing by the Mola Mola, which hovers over her waist, evidencing motherhood and the cycle of life, of which she is the primordial figure, and ending by revealing her in this final frame.

René was born in the 60's, in São Paulo, Brazil, during the Military Dictatorship. Art bloomed in his childhood, in the 70's and his formal artistic preparation and training took place during the adolescence, between 13 and 17 years of age, when he studied art history, artistic movements and various painting techniques. For years, René developed his singular style, an amalgamation of different influences passing through enshrined names from comic books, pop art, the great classics and modern masters, contemporary art, and everything else his unquiet mind can absorb. Each artwork has a dense narrative full of details. It is like little stories that are relevant for the big picture. Sometimes, the protagonist is just a spectator, who placidly observes the scene depicted or protagonist is the viewer himself, establishing a dialogue between the collective and the individual simultaneously. Aside his career as an artist, René was an executive in the Brazilian publishing market, being a publisher and editor of magazines and books Rene's art is innovative and shares his feelings about human existence, using allegories to represent people's daily lives. His vision as an artist is to suppress his own ego from his artwork in order to create a mirror where the viewer can see himself.
