About The Artwork

This is an older work that I made in 2014. It is inspired by the Japonisme movement, as well as, Japanese prints. The work is created on hand built stretchers. It is a gallery wrapped canvas over panel. Edges are finished black and present 1.75" from the wall, so no need to frame. I prepare the canvas with a modified fresco, render in acrylic then glaze with multiple rounds of oils thinned down to a transparency. In the end the work reads with a nuanced natural surface and a lacquered finish. The glazes are worked to create a keyhole effect and give the piece a subtle and attractive focal point of illumination.
