About The Artwork
This Tuxedo cat, whose name is Sylvester, is becoming my muse. This is the third painting of him I have done (see my collection, Cats). He is so serene and loves to find that one special spot in the sun. Like all males, he looks good in a tuxedo. He is not my cat, but he chooses to grace my garden often. I think he finds the same pleasure in the sun, flowers and sky that I do. The maroon plant is a mysterious wild berry bush that has attracted Sylvester, as well as many birds. Sylvester, for his part, has never bothered any of the birds that come to my feeder. He believes in live and let live. There is something Buddhistic about him, and I hope I have captured that.

I grew up in Los Angeles, where the bright colors of blue sky and bougainvillea were a daily constant. I now live in New Jersey, where the varied colors of the seasons parade before my senses. I consider myself a figurative expressionist. I paint people, birds, dogs, cats and flowers. I seek to reveal the inner soul. I'm not interested in clichés or surface appeal. I'm told my strength is in transmitting feeling through color. I paint in Oil and Acrylic. Among the artists I am most inspired by: Modigliani, Matisse, Georgia O'Keefe, Utamaro and Kirchner. I would hope the viewer would feel the joy I feel when painting a particular subject. I only paint what I care deeply about.
