About The Artwork

The last in the Twins of Colney Hatch series, this painting playfully explores the blurry line between realism and abstraction. As the eye travels from the door down the path, things become less about the subject and more about lines, colour, materials and process. It takes inspiration from all manners of sources - old Impressionist and Fauvist favourites, as well as more contemporary practitioners whose work I got to see over the years. In particular, I have taken a shine to defined contour lines so (compared to earlier paintings in the collection) those are becoming more prominent. There is also unfinished business here, with parts of the ground deliberately left unpainted.

Shipping & Returns

Delivery Time:Typically 5-7 business days for domestic shipments, 10-14 business days for international shipments.

Karen’s work focuses primarily on capturing fleeting moments of beauty in everyday life, giving them permanence through the medium of paint: a landscape or building observed when no-one else is around, or the demeanour of a person absorbed in mundane activity. Process, colour and the quality of paint are her main drivers, and she has a fascination for the tension between darkness and light, flatness and texture, realism and abstraction. Starting from cropped images, oil pastel studies and abundant colour research, she favours acrylic paint, using a wide range of brush marks and textures. She occasionally incorporates other media such as collage or charcoal.
