"Two" Painting

This is the second in my dance series. Here, two dancers present. One faces the audience, the other has her back to us. Each dancer, vies for our attention, but in very different ways. Is there conflict, or is there unity? Just like in all relationships, both can exist at the very same moment in time. The first step in my artistic process is to make sketches in a little book I carry in my purse. Having a visual inventory in my head is also part of that process. I might make 5 or 6 complete drawings before I accept one for a painting. In this piece, creating visual tension between the two dancers was an important element of the piece. Choosing the colors for these painting in an instinctual process. The oil pastels are arranged in color families before me. The choice of colors just seem to emerge. The only thing I'm thinking is my desire to keep a balance between "warm" and "cool".
