ABOUT THE ARTWORK
The work was inspired by the idea of using the American Flag to silence expression and speech. I hope viewers see the idea of trying to free yourself from being silent. I have been working in this stripped down style for some time. I wanted it to have a graphic visual impact. It was inspired by my works on wood. This piece is part of a series called Coded Language. The idea behind that is here in the US, we are all speaking English but don't quite understand or want to understand each other.
