About The Artwork

I’m fascinated by the farthest reaches of distant galaxies, and how the tiniest particles and waves of the natural world are distilled by science into mathematics. These inspirations appear in this work through expressionistic marks, luminous color, violently splattered paint, drips, and collaged images remind our of the concrete physical realm. In this piece the images are of whales and diatoms (one-celled water dwelling creatures. In playing with scale the whales appear smaller than the diatoms. Try to imagine a space in which this would be possible—it is not our ordinary reality. Balancing in the space are geometric line drawings interplaying with imagery to weave their message; a juxtaposition of geometric symbols—the sacred geometries of circles—in an examination of physics, archeology, mysticism, dream and meditation space. Here I recognize an inner reality within a large cosmic reality and explore consciousness in the micro and macro universes, balancing the wild and chaotic with serenity.

I was born in Morristown, NJ. My family moved to Berkshire County MA in my teenage years. I studied art in Boston, New York City and Mexico. Art has always been a part of my life since my father taught me to stretch canvas and paint in oils as a small child. In my work I process a vast data input in a disconnected information age where I grope for meaning and to feel whole and safe. I’m fascinated by the farthest reaches of distant galaxies, and how the tiniest particles and waves of the natural world are distilled by science into mathematics. These inspirations appear in my work through expressionistic marks, luminous color, violently splattered & softly sprayed paint, drips, and collaged flotsam & jetsam as a reminder of our media reality. Balanced geometric line drawings on interplaying panels weave their message; a cohesive whole of separate parts where I see unity in all things. My work juxtaposes geometric symbols of ancient cultures—the sacred geometries of circles—in an examination of physics, archeology, mysticism, meditation space and residue of daily life. Here I recognize an inner reality within a large cosmic reality and explore consciousness in the micro and macro universes, balancing the wild and chaotic with the serenity I seek.
