About The Artwork

UNFOLDING SERIES STYLE STATEMENT In a few simple words the ‘Unfolding Series’ means the following to me– CHANGE - BIRTH – EXPLOSION - BUDDING – GROWTH – EXPLORATION – SENSUAL – SEXUAL – LIVELY – MOVING. The longer elevator story, however, rattles on like this..…… I have in my collection of junk and resource material, early magazine photos (1969) of the earth from space, also this amazing book of computer enhanced satellite images that for some reason got me into some interesting experimentation with paint and colour. Besides my twisted imagination that has landed me on many a far away planet, only a handful of people have had the real experience to feel the emotions of looking down on the earth from a capsule that contains a limited amount of air, food and water. I could only imagine the experience and for me, it must be one of those rare few moments that a person feels the true mortality of existence and can actually reflect on things that are happening which are far greater than our own preconceived notion of life. The focus here, however, is not the cosmos necessarily or a lecture on parallel realities, but seeing the way that things are created in the universe from an artistic point of view. I am more focusing on what the interpretations of patterns mean emotionally. Take into account that beauty and art are as natural as tributaries of rivers creating delicate tendrils of massive deltas or ribboned wastelands of tonal deserts that roll relentlessly like waves until they hit something with a green hue. The bright coloured bands of oceans meeting each other in a confluence of roiling colour. The complexity of light from a particularly beautiful sunrise. The jagged and cracked look of mountains being smashed by continental shifts of rock. It’s an amazing and endless idea of textures, forms, colours and most importantly feelings. The feeling of absolute vulnerability is a little of what the ‘Unfoldings’ are about or at least what inspired them to be so colourful, delicate and at the same time volatile and explosive. The works have made use of literal effects that reminisce the geographic imagery I was inspired by, but for the most part these works interpret the same feeling of an energy that reflect destruction and regeneration, like an exploding star or the spontaneous bloom of a bush or a flower. Whether emotive or tangible it is the same brutal life giving energy that makes things tick over millennia after millennia. This is only scratching the surface of cracking the code to my abstracts of course the ‘Unfoldings’ are what they are meaning or no meaning and what I see is different then what the next person sees but sometimes it is interesting to know if there is indeed a method in the madness of wild paint and bright colours. I guess the true answer is that I painted them because that’s what I felt like painting at the time.

UNIQUE AND INDIVIDUAL Tay Dall's work embodies an energy and passion with imaginative mediums, subjects, themes, colours, and styles that continue to surpass all expectations of the current art trends South Africa has to offer. Her work, when viewed in person is unique and unforgettable as can be attested by the hundreds of private and corporate collectors who have invested in her artistic vision. Born in Cape Town in 1966, Tay began doing art classes at the early age of 8 years old, finally finishing her education with a Bachelors in Fine Arts from the Michaelis School of Art at the University of Cape Town. In 1988 Tay immigrated with her family to Los Angeles, California where she worked in the film industry, studied computer graphics, and began exhibiting her work in various venues in her free time. Her eminent success in America led to a full-time career as an artist. Tay Dall's art has been shown in more than 90 exhibitions throughout the world. Her work is represented by over 30 local and international galleries including one of her own signature galleries, The Tay Modern-Hermanus. Needing to be closer to her roots, Tay returned to South Africa permanently in 1995 where she currently paints from her studio in the beautiful seaside village of Hermanus in the Western Cape. "As a working artist I am also an entrepreneur, so integrity is paramount in both disciplines of my career. Staying honest and true is the only way to be taken seriously and survive as a woman, as a careerist and as an artist. Appreciation and respect is the ultimate reward for my hard work.
