About The Artwork

Control of being. Symbolism of our humanity and Identification of loss. Many times, if not all, the attempt is to express themes, or symbols within the work very simply. Abstraction is always the formula, establishing the rigor required to succinctly express these ideas of our mere existence in the world. Key elements of dominance, power, and control embody this work and series. Symbolism is a powerful medium just as acrylic or oil paints can be, but the difference is that symbols remain; they stick to us. Moving forward in our lives as typographical memories. The repetition of the equilateral crosses carry many meanings, and also represents the abstraction of our awareness to the symbol itself. Working with thinned acrylic, via watercolor represented a challenge, when especially aiming to control flow of the medium within the rigor of the grid. As a transplant to a new city, this series represents the personal challenges faced with living in our highly diverse, but confining cities today. We must continue to advocate for more green spaces within our cities as we evolve and grow. Hope you enjoy this series.

Painting is an extension of my daily life. A way for me to process and express myself to the world. Typically I will work in a series of three, six, or nine paintings, which usually have a common theme or relationship to one another. My work has been shown in a couple of Missouri galleries, but I now reside in KS. Simultaneously, I write poetry. These are two different forms of expression, but both viable to the process. Painting to me is more rigorous like Martin, while the poetry is a bit like Pollock. Seems random until you study it. Both feed one another for sure, but are recognizably different forms that dissect topics of power, control, and segregation. This process of reporting the world keeps me lean, and a keen student of humanity and the complex world we live in. Hope you enjoy, and gratitude.
